Experience Recovery withdrawal management services are provided in a residential setting allowing clients to recover in a peaceful, home-like atmosphere. A wide range of withdrawal management services are organized within a comprehensive therapeutic environment that includes diagnostic determination, individual withdrawal management plans, psychiatric consultations if needed, medication education, individual counseling, individualized treatment planning, client advocacy, referral to community providers and discharge planning. Services are provided by licensed/certified clinicians and medical professionals.
Detoxification from opioids without pharmacological support afterwards remains the dominant model of treatment despite decades of experience and evidence to the contrary. Upon completion of detox, Experience Recovery believes that it is necessary to teach the skills to cope with cravings and life challenges without drugs. During the residential portion of treatment, the individual will begin to learn the skills needed to live drug free. Experience Recovery understands opioid dependence and medications may need to be extended in all phases of treatment. Treatment will focus on recovery, and the many ways it can be reached.
Once a client is stabilized and meets criteria for a less intensive level of care they can seamlessly move to our Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient, and Outpatient care. It is the belief of Experience Recovery that treatment should be a smooth transition and not each level of care a separate entity. All of the services offered are evidenced based and trauma informed care.
Experience Recovery understands that healthcare payers (i.e. insurance companies, Medicaid, Medicare) will begin to track their patients’ admissions to addiction treatment programs to identify the programs that yield the best outcomes, specifically measured by low re-admission rates. This type of accountability is not only necessary but valuable for both the client and the program as a whole. Due to this belief Experience Recovery will collect information and data to prove the positive effects of treating the whole person in all levels of care. Experience Recovery will also take great care in tracking the increase and decrease of identified symptoms in each individual. This approach will help payers identify programs that will result in costs-savings for the treatment of substance use disorders. It is the goal of Experience Recovery to produce low readmission rates, less hospitalizations, less emergency room visits, decrease in symptoms and increase overall quality of life.
Detoxification can usually be accomplished within 3-10 days or until the patient’s signs and symptoms can be managed at a less intensive level of care. Length of detoxification depends on a number of factors including withdrawal risk, substance(s) used, medical status, and severity of withdrawal symptoms. (ASAM Criteria, 2013; CMS NCD Manual, Section 130.1)
Once determination for the appropriate level of care is determined an admission is completed.
Upon admission, the patient will have a complete history and physical completed by a licensed healthcare provider. The information will be collected in order to identify the needs of each patient. A physical examination and other necessary diagnostic evaluations should be completed to the extent possible and as indicated by the member’s clinical presentation to rule out other causes of symptomatology (CMS LCD, 2017).
The results from the evaluation should determine the member’s diagnosis, level of risk, treatment setting and treatment planning goals (ASAM Criteria, 2013).
Once diagnosed withdrawal management/detoxification medications are used to treat intoxication and withdrawal. Detox protocols will be determined by several factors and determined by the physician.
When monitoring withdrawal Experience Recovery will use The Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment (CIWA) and the Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale (COWS)
Experience Recovery takes pride in their clinical documentation and has the belief that good documentation results in patients getting better. All interactions and services that are completed with the patient will be documented to meet the standards of all payers. Good documentation that proves medical necessity will result in accurate outcomes, less claw backs from insurance companies, defend against possible malpractice lawsuits and improve patient retention.
If you or a loved one needs help getting sober, Experience Recovery can help. Our admissions line is open 24/7.
